Reasons for automation

A deburring machine needs at least one operator at the front. That person is responsible for loading the machine. Unloading at the back of the machine can either done by the same operator or by another employee. Have you ever thought of integrating robot solutions? Here are some reasons to consider automation:

Deployment of staff

In times of staff shortages, it is crucial to use your employees wisely. Robots can handle simple tasks that do not require much skills. Freeing the workers for more skilled jobs. This ensures that staff are utilized effectively.

Health

Loading and unloading a machine is repetitive work. It is doable if the production volumes are manageable. However, when a deburring machine is used frequently, repetitive work can become a physical hazard. It can lead to repetitive strain injuries, reduced mobility in affected body parts and fatigue, among other things.

Unmanned production

Automation offers opportunities for companies aiming to increase production output. By utilising robots, businesses can establish unmanned production processes that operate day and night.

Back in 2016, at the EuroBLECH, Timesavers showed the 42 RB series machine in combination with a robot arm. The workpieces that need to be deburred and rounded, pass the machine on a dedicated zone of the conveyor belt. The robot identifies the parts, turns them, and puts them back on the opposite zone of the conveyor belt. Only loading the deburring machine is carried out by the operator.

Fully automated solutions

Timesavers can also arrange the necessary equipment for a fully automated deburring line. That includes robots, tables, 3D cameras, dust extraction and more. Now how this could look like?

One example is the following setup:

An input cell, on both sides of the machine a camera, a robot and a table, and at the backside an output cell.

A pallet with a stack of unprocessed sheet metal can be placed in the input cell. A camera scans the products. Our Timesavers deburring machine will then automatically adjust itself to the right parameters. The system also identifies the product, so the robot can select the right gripper. The robot will set to the correct picking position. It continues to move the products from the pallet to the transport belt. Once the product is placed on the front table, it will be transported into the machine. That is where deburring, edge rounding and finishing happens. The finished products end up on the table at the back. Here, the camera scans the product again. The system will recognize it, so the robot can select the right gripper. All processed parts are placed on the pallet in the output cell. Placement will be identical to the pallet at the input cell. Once everything is processed, the system is notified. That is when the pallet can be removed. Such a machine line is built in a cell or with a fence around to ensure safety.
